The Valley City State University (VCSU) Skeet Team has successfully wrapped up its inaugural competitive season in style, achieving a notable second place finish in Conference 1. This outstanding performance has set a strong foundation for the program’s future endeavors, showcasing the team’s commitment and skill throughout the season.

Individual Achievements of a New Generation

Leading the charge for the Vikings was freshman Ty Awender, who topped the individual conference standings with an impressive score of 237 out of 250 targets hit. His exceptional performance included:

  • Three perfect weekly scores of 50 out of 50
  • Three additional rounds with a score of 25 straight

Awender’s consistency and precision not only earned him the first-place title in the conference but also highlighted his bright future in the sport.

Fellow teammate Kasey Odegaard also had an impressive showing, securing a spot in the top three with a score of 228 out of 250. His performance included a perfect 25-straight round, reinforcing the strength and potential of the VCSU Skeet Team.

Team Performance and Future Aspirations

The collective efforts of the VCSU Skeet Team earned them a total of 618 points, placing them just shy of first place, a title claimed by Lindenwood University with 633.5 points. Odegard, who also serves as the president of the VCSU Trap Club, expressed pride in the team’s achievements:

“This season and the decision to add skeet was a huge step forward for our program,” Odegard remarked. “Our team showed the skill needed to continue growing in the years ahead. Finishing our first season on the podium is a testament to the dedication and passion we have for the sport.”

The success of the current season paves the way for the recruitment and preparation of the next cohort for the 2025–2026 VCSU Skeet Team.
