Netflix movies are about to receive a major Disney-powered boost. Disney Entertainment and Netflix have reached an expansive content licensing agreement that will bring blockbuster franchises, popular television series and acclaimed animated films to Netflix for different periods.
The agreement reflects a growing relationship between two companies that usually compete for streaming subscribers. Disney continues to prioritize its own platforms, while Netflix benefits from a broader catalog and the ability to attract viewers with familiar franchises. According to Variety, Disney also sees Netflix’s audience of more than 325 million customers as an opportunity to generate additional revenue and promote upcoming releases.
Netflix Movies Get a Powerful Ice Age and Disney Boost
The biggest immediate addition is the complete Ice Age movie collection. All five films from 20th Century Studios will become available on Netflix worldwide beginning Oct. 4. The licensing window will run for three months, creating a promotional opportunity ahead of the next theatrical installment.
- Ice Age (2002)
- Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)
- Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)
- Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)
- Ice Age: Collision Course (2016)
The timing is strategic. Ice Age: Boiling Point, the sixth film in the animated franchise, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027. Making the earlier films widely available could encourage families to revisit the series and introduce the characters to a new generation before the theatrical release.
Major TV Additions Include Percy Jackson and Will Trent
Disney is also licensing current television content. Seasons 1 and 2 of Disney+ original series Percy Jackson and the Olympians will launch on Netflix globally on Oct. 4. The three-month promotional window comes before Season 3 premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 20.
The move gives Netflix viewers a chance to catch up on the fantasy adventure while helping Disney build anticipation for the next chapter. The series follows Percy Jackson, a young demigod who discovers his extraordinary heritage and becomes involved in dangerous battles drawn from Greek mythology.
Three current series from 20th Television are also included in the deal. Will Trent Seasons 1 through 4 will be available globally on Netflix beginning Nov. 3, ahead of the show’s Season 5 premiere on ABC in early 2027.
Shifting Gears Seasons 1 and 2 will arrive on Netflix in the United States beginning Dec. 1, followed by an international release in January. The comedy is also being positioned as a discovery tool ahead of its third-season premiere on ABC in early 2027.
Meanwhile, Tracker Seasons 1 through 3 will be available internationally outside the United States beginning Feb. 26, 2027. The agreement does not include the U.S. for this title, and the release will follow the CBS premiere of Season 4 on Oct. 4.
Felicity, Revenge and Pixar Films Join the Streaming Lineup
The deal extends beyond current programming and major franchises. A selection of Disney-branded films from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar will begin arriving on Netflix globally in early 2027. Titles include the Oscar-winning Soul, Elio and Raya and the Last Dragon, with launch dates varying by region.
Netflix subscribers will also gain access to several library television shows. Felicity arrives in the United States on Oct. 7, with international availability coming later. Other additions include Revenge globally, Army Wives globally, Fresh Off the Boat in the U.S. and select regions, and This Is Us internationally outside the U.S.
These programs will join Disney-owned titles already licensed to Netflix, including Grey’s Anatomy, Arrested Development, Scandal and Black-ish.
What the Disney-Netflix Deal Means for Viewers
Disney emphasized that the licensing agreement will not remove the titles from Disney+ or Hulu. The films and shows will remain available on Disney’s platforms while also appearing on Netflix for specified periods.
For viewers, the arrangement means more flexibility and a deeper streaming catalog without eliminating Disney’s direct-to-consumer strategy. For Netflix, the addition of recognizable brands could strengthen its entertainment lineup as competition intensifies. For Disney, the deal offers incremental licensing revenue, wider visibility and a way to build momentum around upcoming theatrical and television releases.
