Hendrick Motorsports delivered a dramatic breakthrough Sunday as Kyle Larson ended a 51-race winless streak with an overtime victory at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Larson edged teammate Alex Bowman in a chaotic NASCAR Cup Series race that dramatically reshaped the playoff picture.

Together, the Hendrick drivers left Illinois with considerable momentum heading deeper into the playoffs.
Late Crashes Create Major Championship Fallout
The race’s numerous incidents created significant consequences throughout the playoff field. On lap 141, Bubba Wallace and Chase Briscoe became involved in a four-wide battle entering Turn 1. Wallace spun after being forced onto the curb, Briscoe also went sideways, and Byron collided with Wallace’s car.
Chase Elliott later suffered an apparent brake failure on lap 213 and collected Briscoe before both cars hit the wall. Ryan Blaney also endured a dramatic brake failure while running sixth, ending his race and leaving him in 35th place.
Additional incidents involved Tyler Reddick, Josh Berry, Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs and Daniel Suarez. The crashes damaged several playoff contenders and made Larson’s clean execution even more valuable.
