San Diego also received strong support against the Chicago Cubs, with the Padres leading 17-7 in expert votes. Mason Miller’s presence at the back of the bullpen and the late-season production of Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill were central to the prediction.
Critical Division Series Matchups
The Cleveland Guardians were the overwhelming choice in the American League Division Series, receiving 19 votes to advance against either Houston or Chicago. Cleveland won 24 of its final 35 games and enters October with momentum, a rested bullpen and a healthy Jose Ramirez leading the offense.
The Tampa Bay Rays were picked by 18 experts to defeat the winner of the Yankees-Red Sox series. Tampa Bay went 55-26 at home and built its success around contact hitting, aggressive baserunning, elite control and reliable defense.
In the National League, the Dodgers were nearly unanimous against the winner of the Phillies-Braves series. Los Angeles received 23 votes, with Atlanta earning the lone alternative. The Dodgers’ projected pitching group includes Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, a collection analysts believe can overwhelm opposing lineups.
Milwaukee was selected by 22 experts to defeat either Chicago or San Diego. Only two voters picked the Padres to pull off the upset. San Diego’s 41-18 run after July 23 made it a dangerous opponent, but concerns about the rotation kept most analysts on Milwaukee’s side.

The American League Championship Series predictions favored Tampa Bay over New York, 18 votes to four, with two experts selecting Boston. The Rays’ home-field advantage and unusual combination of contact offense, speed and pitching impressed the panel.
Milwaukee led the National League Championship Series projections with 16 votes. The Dodgers received seven, while San Diego earned one. Analysts believe the Brewers are better equipped than last year to handle Los Angeles’ deep rotation and postseason experience.
The Dodgers are pursuing a historic third consecutive World Series title, but health and bullpen concerns have made them less dominant in the predictions than they were before the season.
