Tornado Warning Lifted for Twin Cities, All of Central Minnesota Still on Watch

In an abrupt weather shift, a tornado warning that was issued for the Twin Cities metro area has recently been lifted. However, a tornado watch remains in effect for all of central Minnesota and portions of northwest Wisconsin, lasting until 8 p.m. on Thursday evening.

According to reports from the National Weather Service, the tornado watch encompasses a sprawling area affecting 35 counties across Minnesota, extending into Wisconsin where 20 counties are included. This alert covers a significant region stretching from the North Dakota border in the west to La Crosse, Wisconsin in the east. Affected cities in Minnesota include:

• Brainerd
• Hinckley
• St. Cloud
• Morris
• Willmar
• Red Wing

In Wisconsin, towns like Hayward, Rice Lake, and Eau Claire are also under the tornado watch.

Significant Weather Events

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, sirens echoed through downtown Minneapolis around 2:30 p.m., marking the height of the tornado warning. In response, the Federal Aviation Administration enacted a ground stop at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport from 2 p.m. for a duration of 40 minutes. This unexpected measure halted flights from taking off, causing several planes, specifically nine, to be diverted to other airports temporarily.

Reports indicated a tornado was sighted near Spring Hill, Minnesota, which is situated to the west of St. Cloud. Fortunately, there have been no reports of damage linked to this weather event. Residents are advised to stay updated as conditions can change rapidly.
