Alleigha Botner delivered dramatic testimony Wednesday in the Ohio murder trial of former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn, describing alleged threats he made against his wife, Ashley Flynn, before she was fatally shot.
Botner testified that she had an affair with Flynn for roughly a year and a half. Prosecutors say their relationship became increasingly complicated in the months leading up to Ashley Flynn’s death inside the couple’s Tipp City home.

According to Botner, Flynn repeatedly expressed anger toward his wife and spoke about wanting her dead. She told jurors that his remarks became more disturbing over time.
“At first it was, ‘I want her dead. I wish she was gone,’” Botner testified.
She later recalled Flynn allegedly saying, “If I could kill her and not go to jail, I would.” Botner also said he once told her he had been thinking about ways to kill Ashley.
Prosecutors presented thousands of messages exchanged during the affair, including statements allegedly attributed to Flynn such as, “I need her to die” and “I want her dead and gone.” One message reportedly included the word “kill her” in response to Botner asking what she could do for him.
Affair, Ultimatum and Tense Final Messages
Botner testified that she knew Flynn was married when their relationship became sexual. She said Flynn described Ashley as little more than a “roommate” and claimed he remained in the marriage because of their two daughters.
The relationship reportedly produced about 107,000 messages over the course of a year. Botner said the pair routinely deleted their conversations, and she admitted helping Flynn research whether messages could be permanently removed from his devices.
On Jan. 11, Botner gave Flynn an ultimatum: leave Ashley or she would end their relationship. Flynn did not leave, and Botner stopped communicating with him until Valentine’s Day.
On Feb. 14, Botner said Flynn told her he was filing for divorce and was “actually leaving her this time.” The pair later met at Christian Life Center, where they had first met through the church’s worship ministry.
Botner said their communications continued into the night before Ashley’s death. Flynn allegedly sent messages saying, “Tomorrow is a big day,” “I choose you” and that he was “about to be free.” Botner said she understood the statements to mean he intended to proceed with a divorce.
Prosecutors Outline Case Against Caleb Flynn
Ashley Flynn was found dead inside the couple’s home on Feb. 16, 2026. Prosecutors allege she was shot in the back of the head and that the crime scene was staged to appear as though an intruder had broken into the residence.
Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges. Investigators have not recovered the firearm prosecutors believe was used in the killing, despite searches of the home, nearby woods, storm drains and other areas.
Botner said Flynn had previously shown her a firearm that he kept in the center console of his truck. She could not describe the weapon in detail because she saw it only once.
The witness also acknowledged that she initially lied to the FBI about the affair. She testified that she feared losing her reputation and job, particularly after learning that the relationship had become connected to a homicide investigation.
Botner said she deleted a message she sent Flynn after learning Ashley had died. She told jurors she was worried investigators would search his phone and discover the affair.
Witness Expected to Continue Testifying
When prosecutors asked Botner how she feels about Flynn now, she responded, “I hate him.” Asked why, she said, “Because I believe that he murdered his wife.”
Flynn’s attorney was contacted for comment. Botner is expected to return to the witness stand Thursday as testimony continues. The case remains active, and the allegations against Flynn have not been proven in court.
