While thousands prepared for the sold-out showdown, a group of Savannah Bananas players chose to take a different path, sharing their faith with the community at a special worship night in College Station.
Bringing Faith to the Brazos Valley
On Friday, Savannah Bananas player Coach RAC, along with several teammates and friends from the Texas Tailgaters, organized a free community worship night at Central Church. This gathering was part of their traveling faith initiative known as Sandlot Revival, which aims to connect with local communities while spreading a positive message.
Inspiration Behind Sandlot Revival
For Coach RAC, the purpose of the event extends beyond baseball. “The only thing that will satisfy your soul is the relationship with Jesus Christ, and that is the heart behind this,” he stated. The Sandlot Revival movement began as a team Bible study in 2024 and has since transformed into a city-to-city worship tour, having reached over 5,000 people across the country in just one year.
RAC’s vision was clear: “We’re traveling to so many different cities, and I thought, what if we had a worship night in each city where we played?” This initiative isn’t focused on attendance numbers but rather on fostering a connection with local churches and presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ wherever they go.
Connection with the Community
Central Church Lead Pastor Philip Bethencourt welcomed the Savannah Bananas players with open arms, excited to host an event centered around worship rather than baseball. “Tonight’s not about baseball, it’s about worshiping Jesus and making his name known,” said Bethencourt.
Highlighting the evening was the personal testimonies shared by the players. Pastor Bethencourt noted, “So often people can see them on the big screen and think they might have had perfect lives. But the Lord has really shown up and taken them in a new direction through a relationship with Jesus.” This genuine sharing of faith served as a reminder of the empowering journeys many athletes undergo.

For young attendees like Beau Montgomery, the worship night offered an extraordinary opportunity to connect with their sports idols in a unique setting. “It’s a great way to worship God, and I love that we get to experience this with all my friends,” he shared.

In closing the event, Coach RAC emphasized an important message. “The most important thing in this world is not you, it is the God who created you. If we can learn that we are loved by a holy God, we can serve others in a nourishing way,” he said, urging the audience to prioritize their faith.
