Jackie Big Bear Eagle fans are learning more about the devastating health problems that led to the beloved bird’s death. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said Jackie died during the overnight hours of Aug. 9, 2026, while receiving intensive medical care at the Ojai Raptor Center.
The 14-year-old bald eagle had spent more than three weeks at the facility. Her condition had already included anemia and kidney inflammation, but veterinary teams later discovered several additional abnormalities that made her recovery increasingly difficult.

According to the CDFW, Jackie developed a large blood clot in her wing and another clot in her kidney. Officials also reported abnormalities affecting her liver and lungs, along with an inadequate bone marrow response.
