Austin police are actively searching for two suspects linked to a shocking series of shootings that unfolded in a span of hours over the weekend. Starting Saturday night and continuing into Sunday morning, at least 10 shootings occurred, resulting in injuries to four individuals.
Details of the Incidents
The disturbing wave of violence has mainly affected the South Austin area, prompting authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents within the boundaries of South Slaughter Lane, East McKinney Falls Parkway, North Ben White Boulevard, and West Escarpment Boulevard. The first of these incidents was reported around 9 p.m. on Saturday evening in the 6700 block of Wentworth Drive, where shots were indiscriminately fired toward Fire Station 26. The subsequent shooting near Janes Ranch Road on Sunday morning involved a male victim, who suffered serious injuries and is now in stable condition after being transported to a local hospital.
Another shooting occurred later on Sunday morning at approximately 10:50 a.m. near the 2800 block of Montebello Road, targeting Fire Station 32. Investigators are also looking into an incident near the intersection of Burton Drive and Oltorf Street, where a witness indicated a possible argument preceded gunfire involving a vehicle.
Search for Suspects and Community Impact
The Austin Police Department describes the suspects as two Hispanic males in their late teens, with one having medium-length wavy hair and the other possessing longer hair. Currently, multiple vehicles are suspected in these shootings, including a black or dark blue Hyundai, a gold Hyundai sedan, a silver Mazda four-door, and a white Kia Optima, which police are actively trying to locate.
Residents have been urged to take precautions by ensuring their vehicles are locked and that no keys or key fobs are left inside, as stolen cars are believed to be involved in the crimes. Fortunately, authorities have reported that three of the four victims sustained minor injuries, with the fourth remaining in serious but stable condition.
